Trish attended her first yoga class in March 2015 and was immediately drawn to the Kundalini Yoga practice. She experienced many benefits from the yoga practice including a deep level of healing that was unknown to her up until that point. Her desire is that everyone have the opportunity to learn how to incorporate (even the smallest amount of) yoga into everyday life. Yoga is a toolset that supports one finding a deeper level of stillness. She believes that it is through this stillness that we as a human can have more awareness of how beautiful we truly are. In Mid-2018, Trish completed her 200hr Level 1 certification with the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI). Trish is excited to share these teachings of Kundalini yoga at Ascension Wellness and Yoga and Knoxville Kundalini Yoga Center and beyond. She is also a Certified Spiritual/Life Coach plus hold certifications from Edgar Cacey’s A.R.E. foundation in Soul/Past Life Regression (PLR) and Altered State Wellness Center in Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT), Level III Reiki. Certifed from Cornell University in Nutrition.
Carrie began her yoga journey back in the late 1990’s when a dear friend invited her to attend a Kundalini class on campus. Yoga resonated so deeply that she continued throughout the years, on and off, taking classes whenever and wherever she could fit them into her school and work schedule. Yoga eventually opened a door to other spiritual and holistic healing therapies including Reiki.
In 2002 she became a certified Reiki I and II healer. She recertified again in 2016(Reiki I) and 2020(Reiki II) with Shaman Healer Shanti of Yoga Haven. After years of taking classes, Carrie was asked to teach a yoga class at the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge which she did for over 5 years. During that time the opportunity came about to attend a teacher training to deepen her yoga practice and teaching. In 2015-16 she got her 200 hour teacher training at Aspen Health and Healing. She also acquired a certification to teach children’s yoga through the Kidding Around Yoga Program.
Carrie’s style of teaching is a collective of Kundalini, Hatha, and Vinyasa Flow all in one, along with body weight conditioning, breath work and meditation. She believes the practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible, and yoga also improves the functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga brings about emotional stability and clarity of the mind while bringing balance to the body.
Her goal is to share and broaden her 20 plus years experience of yoga with others. Not only does she enjoy teaching yoga but she also enjoys being taught! Everyone we meet is a teacher.
Tristan is a Oak Ridge native who has been practicing yoga for 5 years and was certified in vinyasa flow in 2019. Being a runner growing up she began her yoga journey to increase flexibility and found out the yoga world had so much more to offer. She has a 17 year old daughter, 3 dogs, and a loving husband with whom she is expecting another child this autumn. Being pregnant has changed her yoga practice to accommodate where necessary but is as enjoyable and beneficial as ever! In addition to loving yoga and dogs she also has a great appreciation for nature and gets out to hike, swim, or kayak whenever possible. She loves gardening, reading, cooking, arts and crafts, and music. When she’s not teaching yoga you can catch her elsewhere around town dog sitting or pouring your favorite beverage at our local beer garden. Tristain is excited to be the newest member of our Ascension Yoga team and is looking forward to meeting everyone and growing in her practice with with us.
Libin Babu was born and raised in India. Since young age he began his practice of yoga. Libin is grateful to his parents for his journey to enlightenment because he grew up listening to stories of great yogis and their inspiring accomplishments. Later, he formally got training in Sivananda Hatha Yoga tradition.
Hatha Yoga is a tool to elevate the human consciousness and body’s vitality and serenity of mind are biproducts. The system philosophies consist of 5 principles: proper breathing, proper exercise, proper relaxation, proper diet, positive thinking & meditation.
Libin has combined worlds oldest known martial art system- “Kalari” with Yoga and created a very powerful practice that is called as “Kalari-Yoga”. Kalari’s unique body conditioning techniques are used as a preparation for hatha yoga postures. The session will transition to Pranayama (breathing techniques) and end in Dhyana (meditation).
The Yoga system follow a precise order, allowing for a systematic balanced engagement of every major part of the body – with the primary intention being to allow the prana, or life force energy, to circulate more freely. There is an anatomical science behind this specific order of postures that has to do with how each asana counteracts the one before. The poses themselves are designed to bend and rotate the spine, lubricate the joints and lengthen the muscles. And the exact progression of these poses leaves the entire body toned, balanced, supple, and properly aligned. Yoga practitioners of all levels can perform this sequence since each asana has simplified, intermediate and advanced variations.
On Tuesday evenings Libin leads our yoga classes which integrates breathing and relaxation into distinctive asanas that are consistent with traditional and authentic yogic disciplines.
