Yoga Etiquette

  • First time students ~ Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete a waiver and familiarize yourself with the studio and the teacher.

  • Inform the teacher of any injury you have.

  • OK to Come As You Are.

  • Come Prepared to Move.

  • Personal Hygiene is an important part of yoga. Refrain from fragrances, come with a clean body and clean your mat, rugs, and clothes regularly.

  • It will be warm in the Mysore room.

  • Breath Flows In & Out of the nose, unless otherwise instructed.

  • Restrain from drinking water during practice.

  • It is best not to eat anything at least a couple of hours before practice.

  • Patience is key.

  • Assists are hands on touches and adjustments given to the body to help direct the body into a pose or to support the body while in a pose. If you do not wish to have assists, please let the teacher know before practice begins.

  • Gurmukhi is used to teach Kundalini translations are offered along with the Sanskrit. We also mantras at the beginning and ending of class offering our gratitude for the wisdom of all our teachers and our hopes for a peaceful world. These are sung (or chanted) in Gurmukhi and Sanskrit. English translations are offered, and can be provided upon request.

  • Kundalini yoga uses mantras sung in Sanskrit. These are a great way to clean and restore the energy within the body. They are optional to perform with the teacher, you do not have to sing the mantra in order to participate in the class.
